Fit For Work, Department for Work and Pensions

The Task

Fit for Work is a new scheme from the Department for Work and Pensions which aims to provide a ‘back to work’ plan with the support of GPs and employers, for those that through ill health have been away from work for four or more weeks. We were asked to create a service video to communicate simply how the scheme works and the benefits to workers, GPs, and employers. On top of this, we were tasked to film the Fit for Work UK roadshow at BMA House in London and create a video presentation of each speaker that could be used within a webinar for people that were unable to attend the shows in person.

Our Solution

The client required a flexible approach, and we felt that animation would be the most effective solution for the service video. Working closely on the script with the client, we came up with the character of ‘Bob’; a factory worker who has had to take time off work due to ill health.

The animation followed Bob’s journey back to work with the Fit for Work scheme demonstrating how the service works in a step-by-step process supported both by GP’s and his employers. Following on from the initial film which was received incredibly well and used online and on social media, we have also been commissioned to produce shorter edits for use in GP surgeries across England and Wales, as well as a Welsh language version.

The Fit for Work roadshow in London which screened the animation, featured three speakers from a GP to a representative from ACAS to explain and inform about the scheme. We sent a small crew to film the event and introductions from the speakers, filming vox pops from attendees about the scheme, before editing together three presentations utilising footage, speakers’ PowerPoints and Fit for Work branding. These were cut together the same day and then made available as webinars for anyone unable to attend the roadshow but who wanted to know more about Fit for Work.
